4-H Files Joe Wehner

Hi, My name is Joe Wehner, I’m from Rossville, Kansas. I am a member of the Team Purebred Junior Board, which we are a national organization that sponsors the youth interested in the Spotted, Poland China, Chester White, Berkshire, Hereford and Tamworth breeds and we have two real big national shows that we put on and run. The first one is the World Pork Expo, which it’s the beginning of June. So it’s coming up here pretty soon. Then we have our National Junior Show which is in Springfield, Illinois, and it is the end of June. And so we’re just getting geared up and now that it is show season, I figure it’s a good time to get out there and start really promoting the Team Purebred breeds and trying to get people from Kansas more involved because it’s real big in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and those main hog states. We have our two main shows in the summer and then we have regional shows. We have a Northeast Regional Show, which is in Maryland. We have another one which is our Mid-South show, that’s a new one, our first… its first time was this past February. It was at the end of February. And that was in Greenwood, Mississippi. And then we have our Southwest Regional which is in Oklahoma, so those are our five shows that we at Team Purebred go ahead and put on all by ourselves. And then we have a bunch of other shows, like the National Barrow Show, we’ll go help run the junior side of things for that. Along with, we’ve recently added the Arizona Livestock Show. That’s a brand new one we just added this past month. It’s quite easy to get involved in too because it’s a simple application process. All you have to do is go online to our website. It’s www.teampurebred.com. And there is an online form that you can fill out and submit and so it’s pretty to get involved with it. And it’s not really anything that you have to be invited to or qualify for, it’s just something you go to. You don’t have to be super competitive at these shows, just have a good time. I mean, like I said, it’s just a good time for everyone in general because we keep the kids happy with all the events and stuff we have going on and that kind of stuff.
